There is a phrase we often use when we discuss our practice.
Slow aging. You might have heard this term somewhere, but few people seem to know its precise meaning.
In this post, we want to share what we mean by this term and how that perspective guides us in our treatment room.
Not resisting the passage of time
Skin aging happens to everyone. Medically, we view this change in two ways: intrinsic aging, which progresses naturally with time, and extrinsic aging, which is accelerated by accumulated sun exposure and environmental stressors.
Of these two, we can only influence the second. Time flows at the same pace for everyone. However, UV exposure, lifestyle choices, and the accumulation of stress on the skin vary from person to person. This is why two people born in the same year can have completely different skin.
We see this reality every day in our clinic. One person might have deeper lines etched by the sun, while another shows only the gentle, natural changes of time. Observing these differences reminds us that the skin faithfully records how a person has lived.
Slow aging begins with this flow. It is not about stopping or reversing time. It is about accepting the natural course and managing the pace of extrinsic aging that accumulates over it.
How skin changes
Visible changes are just the tip of the iceberg. The essential shifts that time brings to our skin occur deep within the dermis.
Collagen and elastin in the dermis form a mesh-like structure that supports the skin. Over time, this mesh gradually loosens, and the rate of new production slows down. The skin barrier also loses some of its ability to retain moisture, and recovery from minor irritation takes longer than before.
When we examine your skin, we first consider the condition of this invisible layer. Understanding which changes have progressed and how much resilience remains helps us determine what to avoid. A precise assessment makes it clear what we should not add to the skin.
When we tell you that a certain treatment is not necessary, it is not a casual suggestion. It is a medical conclusion based on what your skin does not need at this moment.

A different path and pace for everyone
When you sit in our chair, we first take time with your skin. We observe which areas are more sensitive, where changes are more pronounced, how much sun exposure you receive, and what products and habits you use. All of these details have shaped your skin.
Because of this, slow aging has no fixed answer. It is not about applying the same treatment to everyone based on an average. It is about a doctor carefully looking at your unique texture and pace. This is why we spend so much time observing in the treatment room.

On taking a slow approach
Adding a treatment requires time, emotional energy, and the physical stimulation the skin must tolerate. Introducing too many changes at once increases the burden your skin must handle in a short period.
This is why we recommend a slower path. Rather than doing too much at once, we focus on quietly adding only what is truly necessary. We believe that supporting the skin's natural resilience while minimizing unnecessary strain leads to better results over time.
Slow aging is a perspective
Slow aging is not the name of a specific procedure or a special treatment method. It is a perspective on how we view skin and time, and this viewpoint shapes how we care for you in our clinic.
